Good Marketing is Formulaic

Marketing involves some creativity, but most of it is formulaic. It is a concept or a catalyst that works as a launchpad for good and bad products.

Good marketing has a lot of measurable metrics. But, creativity is not a quantifiable metric. So, a lot of marketers use templates and pair them with a bit of creativity to get their message across.

For example, Red Bull has a replicable global marketing strategy. It is on the lines of "Do stuff that gives an adrenaline rush and use it to push your products."

This is also the case with Coca-Cola. Here, some campaigns might be different, but the embedded message is always the same. "Fresh drink to quench your thirst."

By using templates you can replicate ideas at scale. Furthermore, a structured approach leads to predictable outcomes. Such outcomes usually lead to successful campaigns and lead to more sales.

So, the next time you think that Marketing is all about creativity, think again.
